Epiphany of the Lord Sunday - Year A (January 05, 2020)

A. Introduction

a) To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Good morning!
Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for our Sunday Holy Mass celebration.
We joyfully and gratefully celebrate this Sunday the Epiphany of the Lord.
Epiphany coming from Greek means “apparition”.  We need, however, to clarify in depth the implications of the term so as to realize the importance of the feast in which we are participating.  The almighty Lord God Creator and Savior has not only appeared to us in a certain form, but He has come to us as a human person like us, to share with us joys and sorrows in this life, to tell us of God’s love, and finally to save us from sin and death.
We pray in this Holy Mass for the blessing of happiness because the Lord God has come to us and stayed with us always to the end of the times.

b) To the Readings

- First Reading: Is 60:1-6

The Prophet Isaiah announces to the world the good news of the glory of the Lord shining upon the Holy City of Jerusalem.  People from all corners of the earth will come with praises and offerings to worship God.

- Second Reading: Eph 3:2-3a.5-6

Saint Paul believes that the coming of Christ in the world has fulfilled God’s promises of granting all peoples the grace of being members of His Holy Church.

The Epiphany of The Lord (January 5, 2020)

First Reading (Is 60:1-6)

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See,  arkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses. Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the LORD.

Bài đọc I (Is 60:1-6)

Responsorial Psalm (Ps 72:1-2, 7-8, 10-11, 12-13)

R/ Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.
R/ Lạy Chúa, muôn dân khắp địa cầu cùng thờ kính Ngài.

Second Reading (Eph 3:2-3a, 5-6)

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians

Brothers and sisters: You have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for your benefit, namely, that the mystery was made known to me by revelation. It was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit: that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

Gospel (Mt 2:1-12)

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.” When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel.” Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage.” After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.

Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God--Year A (January 1, 2020)

A.           Introduction
a)    To the Holy Mass
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Good morning!
Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the Holy Mass celebration in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
We have solemnly welcomed into our human family Jesus Christ, Son of God and God Himself on December 25 last week.  Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, was conceived   in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mother and born of Her.
Today, we profess the truth that the Mother Who bore Jesus in His human nature also bore Him in His divine nature, for the two natures of Jesus are forever united inseparably in one divine Person.
Therefore, the Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of Jesus of Nazareth and is at the same time the Mother of Christ, the Son of God, and God Himself.
Today, the New Year Day and the World Day of Peace, we pray for a grace-filled New Year as the fruit of dedicated and selfless services of God and neighbor.
Kindly all stand for the entrance hymn.

b)   To the Readings
-       First Reading: Nm 6:22-27
The Lord God told Moses, the great Prophet, to bless in His Holy Name the People of Israel and they would surely receive many divine favors.

-       Second Reading: Gal 4:4-7
Saint Paul in his Letter to the Galatians assures us Christians of this truth that Christ Jesus, the Son of God, was born of the Blessed Virgin Mother in order for us to become adoptive children of God.  So we are allowed by Jesus to pray to God, addressing the Creator of heaven and earth “Abba, Father!”.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph December 29, 2019

A.   Introduction

I.              To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, good morning!
Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the Sunday Holy Mass celebration.
This first Sunday after Christmas the Church urges Christians to turn their hearts and minds to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph as the best model for all Christian families.
From the creation of humanity, God blessed marriage, the union in mutual self-giving and undivided love, between a man and a woman, making it the ever solid foundation for human family life.
The family is, therefore, the natural and beneficial environment for the human person to fully and perfectly develop.
Son of God and God Himself, Jesus was born, raised and grew up in a human family to become like us in all aspects, except sin, as taught by Saint Paul in his Letter to the Hebrews, Chapter 4, verse 15, and to advance in wisdom, and age and favor before God and man, as reported in the Gospel according to Luke, Chapter 2, verse 52.
We pray in this Holy Mass for Christian families to be fashioned after the Holy Family where husbands and wives, parents and children can learn from Jesus, Mary and Joseph how to fulfill their respective roles in the building of authentic Christian families the center, the heart and the soul of which should doubtless be Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
Kindly all stand for the entrance hymn.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph (December 29 2019)

First Reading: SIR 3:2-6, 12-14

A reading from the Book of Sirach

God sets a father in honor over his children;
a mother's authority he confirms over her sons.
Whoever honors his father atones for sins,
and preserves himself from them.
When he prays, he is heard;
he stores up riches who reveres his mother.
Whoever honors his father is gladdened by children,
and, when he prays, is heard.
Whoever reveres his father will live a long life;
he who obeys his father brings comfort to his mother.

My son, take care of your father when he is old;
grieve him not as long as he lives.
Even if his mind fail, be considerate of him;
revile him not all the days of his life;
kindness to a father will not be forgotten,
firmly planted against the debt of your sins
—a house raised in justice to you.

Bài đọc I: Sir 3:2-6

Responsorial Psalm PS 128:1-2, 3, 4-5.

Second Reading:  COL 3:12-21

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians

Brothers and sisters:
Put on, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved,
heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
bearing with one another and forgiving one another,
if one has a grievance against another;
as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.
And over all these put on love,
that is, the bond of perfection.
And let the peace of Christ control your hearts,
the peace into which you were also called in one body.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,
as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another,
singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs
with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, in word or in deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Wives, be subordinate to your husbands,
as is proper in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives,
and avoid any bitterness toward them.
Children, obey your parents in everything,
for this is pleasing to the Lord.
Fathers, do not provoke your children,
so they may not become discouraged.

Alleluia COL 3:15A, 16A

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Let the peace of Christ control your hearts;
let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Alleluia, alleluia! – Alleluia.

Gospel MT 2:13-15, 19-23

When the magi had departed, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
"Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.

Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him."
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod,
that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
Out of Egypt I called my son.

When Herod had died, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream
to Joseph in Egypt and said,
"Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel,
for those who sought the child's life are dead."
He rose, took the child and his mother,
and went to the land of Israel.
But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea
in place of his father Herod,
he was afraid to go back there.
And because he had been warned in a dream,
he departed for the region of Galilee.
He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth,
so that what had been spoken through the prophets
might be fulfilled,
He shall be called a Nazorean.

Phúc Âm: Mt 2:13-15, 19-23

13 Khi các nhà chiêm tinh đã ra về, thì sứ thần Chúa hiện ra báo mộng cho ông Giu-se rằng: "Này ông, dậy đem Hài Nhi và mẹ Người trốn sang Ai-cập, và cứ ở đó cho đến khi tôi báo lại, vì vua Hê-rô-đê sắp tìm giết Hài Nhi đấy! "

The Nativity Of The Lord (December 25, 2019)

CHRISTMAS SONGS & HOLY MASS

Thirty Minutes of Recollection on the Mystery of God Made Man

1. Dear Sisters and Brothers,
The Book of Genesis tells us that from the beginning God created man in His divine image and gave him authority over other creatures.
Man was assigned by God to take care of His creation.
With God’s help and in obedience to his holy will, man accomplished his duty very well.
2. All things were working perfectly when man confronted a hard challenge, a crucial test, in order for him to prove the truth whether or not he holds God, his Creator as the most important reality and the first priority in his life.
3. Of the trees in the garden, man was ordered by God not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and bad.  God wanted man to know the limit of his being created and honor God’s being Creator.
4. The Bible story teaches us the truth that whenever we declare that we are able to complete, by ourselves and independently from God, the final end of our life, we do commit a sin.
5. Man failed to observe God’s command and committed the sin that has caused the human race separation from God, suffering and death.
6. However, God showed sinners his merciful love and forgiveness.  He promised to send his Beloved Son into the world to free man from evil consequences of sin.
7.   “God said to the serpent: ‘ I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel.’
8. Listen carefully to what the Lord God said: “he will strike at your head.”  This is doubtless a promise, or more exactly an assurance, of salvation, made by the Almighty and most merciful God.  The People of God strongly believed that God would send the Messiah, the Savior, to deliver them from the power of sin and death.
9. It is on this promise of salvation that the world, generations after generations, tirelessly kept waiting for the coming of the Son of God.
10. Sing ES #33: “Waiting in Silence”
11. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the Messiah was conceived in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  The angel of the Lord told Joseph to name the child Jesus.  Jesus in Hebrew means: “God saves his People.”
12. All this happened to fulfill what the Bible said long ago that a virgin would conceive and bear a son and they would name him Emmanuel, which means: “God is with us.”
13. We are profoundly grateful to the Lord for not only coming as Jesus to save us from sin and death, but also for staying with us as Emmanuel, to the end of the times.
14. Let us prepare a beautiful and lovely place for him, in our hearts and in our homes.
15. Sing ES#38: “the Whole World Is Waiting for Love”
16. “There were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the watch over their flock.  The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.  The angel said to them: ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.  And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in manger.”
17. And suddenly there was a multitude of heavenly hosts with the angel praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’
18. Sing ES #56 “O Come,: All Ye Faithful”
19. Sing ES #46: “Silent Night”
20. Sing ES #60: “ Hang Bê-lem”
