Cách đối phó khi bị tăng huyết áp bất ngờ .

CÁCH ĐỐI PHÓ CƠN HUYẾT ÁP CAO ĐỘT BIẾN

Người bị bệnh huyết áp cao thường gặp cơn huyết áp cao đột biến bất ngờ và rất nguy hiểm: Có khi huyết cao lên trên 200mHg (huyết áp kỳ thu tâm, lúc tim co vào) rất nguy hiểm. Vì vậy, khi có triệu chứng nhức đầu, chóng mặt, choáng váng, bước lảo đảo hay mặt tự dưng đỏ lên thì nên biết rằng huyết áp trong mạch máu đã tăng cao: Máu tăng cao làm nở các mạch máu, nhất là ở các vi ti huyết quản (các mạch máu ở ngọn các mạch máu, như ở mặt hay trong óc, trong tim, là những nơi thành mạch máu rất mỏng manh, dễ bể), vì vậy, sự sống chết là ở lúc này. Nếu không làm giảm được áp huyết thì huyết áp cao sẽ làm bứt mạch máu, mà bứt mạch máu trong đầu (óc) là dễ nhất vì các mạch máu này nhỏ, thành mạch máu rất yếu. Do đó, người bệnh phải ứng phó ngay như sau (trước khi kêu bác sĩ hay bệnh viện):

1. Nếu thấy mặt đỏ, kèm theo nhức đầu hay bước chân lảo đảo, đứng không vững, muốn té (ngã) thì ngay lập tức uống thêm một viên thuốc trị huyết áp cao, nhiều khi không cần đo huyết áp… Có nhiều người sợ không dám uống thêm thuốc vì bác sĩ gia đình hằng ngày cho uống 1 viên hay 2 viên. Cứ việc uống thêm ngay 1 viên, không sao hết (vì các thuốc đều được chế ở độ lượng thấp, rất xa độ lượng độc hay tác dụng tối đa). Sau khi uống thêm một viên (với khoảng 1 cup nước hay hơn nhằm giúp thuốc mau tan, sớm chạy lên óc làm giảm tác dụng của sự co mạch máu, làm huyết áp tăng cao). Tóm lại, cứ việc uống thêm thuốc (1-2 viên) không sao hết. Còn nếu uống không kịp, huyết áp cứ cao thêm, mạch máu trong óc hay trong tim bể thì không cứu kịp. Sau khi uống thuốc thì đo huyết áp để kiểm chứng xem mình “đoán” có đúng không. Nếu đúng là có huyết áp cao, thì như vậy là mình đoán bệnh đúng rồi, uống thuốc như vậy là đúng, hãy bình tĩnh chờ huyết áp giảm xuống. Nếu muốn, có thể gọi điện thoại cho bác sĩ gia đình kể lại những gì xẩy ra và báo cho bác sĩ biết mình đã uống thêm 1 hay 2 viên thuốc hạ huyết áp… và nhớ kiếm chỗ có máy lạnh hay mát mẻ nằm nghỉ, đừng quýnh quáng, chạy vạy lung tung.
2. Tránh dùng các biện pháp khác như uống thuốc Đông Y hay hoa quả, lá, rễ cây gì đó… Tránh tập thể dục hay xoa bóp cơ thể, hay nằm phơi nắng vì tập thể dục hay nằm phơi nắng làm tăng vận động cơ thể, tăng nhiệt độ, làm lượng máu nở thêm ra, làm tăng thêm lượng máu do tim đẩy đi… dễ làm căng mạch máu, dễ bể mạch máu hơn.
3. Sau khi uống thêm thuốc, chờ chừng nửa giờ đến 1 giờ, đo lại huyết áp mà thấy huyết áp xuống thêm thì ok, mình đã “phản ứng đúng”, hãy bình tĩnh chờ huyết áp trở lại bình thường, rồi 1 giờ sau đo lại huyết áp nữa để xem tình trạng có tốt không.
4. Chỉ khi nào huyết áp không bớt mà tiếp tục tăng cao thì mới kêu cấp cứu nhờ đưa vào bệnh viện… Nhưng, thường nếu huyết cao thì việc uống thêm thuốc hạ máu thì huyết áp sẽ xuống…
5. Nên uống thuốc trị huyết áp vào buổi tối trước khi đi ngủ (sau khi đánh răng) để cho dễ nhớ, vì nếu để buổi sáng mới uống thì nhỡ có chuyện gì phải đi gấp, quên uống thuốc thì rất nguy hiểm vì mình không thể quay về lấy thuốc được.
6. Đi đâu cũng nên đem thuốc trị huyết áp cao (nhét vào túi hay ví) ít viên, đề phòng quên thuốc khi ra khỏi nhà. NÊN NHỚ THUỐC GÌ THÌ QUÊN ĐƯỢC (TIỂU ĐƯỜNG, CAO MỠ) NHƯNG KHÔNG THỂ QUÊN THUỐC TRỊ BỆNH HUYẾT ÁP CAO vì khi bị bể mạch máu thì không có cơ hội để NHỚ LẦN SAU.
7. Mỗi ngày nên đo huyết áp ít nhất một lần.

 University of Mary student to graduate with toddler, supported by campus program for moms

A young mother will be the first to graduate from a Catholic school in North Dakota with the support of the school’s program that provides young student-mothers with child care, housing, and community. Katie Chihoski plans to walk across the stage to obtain her diploma with her 18-month-old daughter, Lucia, by her side. 

In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in 2022 to overturn Roe v. Wade, supporting women with unplanned pregnancies has become an even greater priority for many groups and organizations. Planned Parenthood’s latest report reveals that the abortion giant performed its highest-ever number of abortions the year Roe v. Wade was overturned, numbering almost 400,000 abortions between Oct. 1, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2022. 

With the help of concerned donors, University of Mary, a Catholic liberal arts college in Bismarck, North Dakota, launched the Saint Teresa of Calcutta Community for Mothers in 2023. Known as “St. Teresa’s,” the program pledges to help single mothers by providing room, board, and child care — as well semesterly retreats and frequent “community nights.” 

The whole campus has stepped in to help, with students volunteering to help with child care and professors welcoming kids in class, while residence directors who live on campus — and are often recently married with young children — offer community and support to the St. Teresa’s moms. 

A gift to campus: St. Teresa’s Community for Mothers 

“Katie and Lucia are beloved on campus,” said Vice President for Student Development Reed Ruggles, who oversees University of Mary’s program for mothers. 

Because of the program, Ruggles said that he, staff, and students on campus have been able to “see some of these children grow up.”

“Lucia, for example, was very little when she moved in with her mother, Katie,” he said. “To see her take her first steps, say her first words, and grow from carrier to highchair in our Crow’s Nest Restaurant on campus has been a gift to all of us.” 

Ruggles observed that Chihoski’s friends treat Lucia and Katie as “one of their own” and said they are “integral members of our campus.”

“Faculty and staff who know Katie are so supportive of her,” he continued. “From volunteering to babysit Lucia to holding Lucia during a meeting or Mass, we consider it a great joy to have Lucia and Katie on campus.”

Noting that the program is only in its third semester, Ruggles said that he is “excited” to celebrate “our first graduate.”

Chihoski hopes to walk across the stage with Lucia, who will be wearing a toddler-sized cap and gown on graduation day. 

“I think she will walk across the stage with me, if I can figure out the logistics,” she said. “I would love to make that a tradition for future graduating mothers.”

Chihoski said that although she had some worries about attending school with a young daughter, Lucia has made things “twice as fun.”

“Coming to school, I expected to be seen as different, and somewhat outcast from the typical college life,” she explained. “I think it was difficult to get used to my tag-along when going to events on campus, but Lucia makes the world twice as much fun.” 

“Attending school with my daughter, Lucia, has been the most amazing thing to witness,” she said. “Children bring out the joy in people and offer a fuller sense of purpose.”

“Our students hear all the time about how they can give their life away in love,” Ruggles added. “This community shows students what that can look like from a practical perspective and gives students an opportunity to practice that by giving their time and love to these mothers and their children.”

“It has been wonderful having the community of mothers on campus,” Ruggles said. “We have students from as far away as Texas and Colorado and from right here in North Dakota. Supporting these mothers is truly a gift to us.”

Chihoski’s happily ever after

Chihoski was a sophomore studying abroad in Rome when she discovered she was pregnant. 

St. Teresa’s hadn’t begun at the time, but Chihoski said that her UMary classmates were supportive of her: checking in on her, encouraging her to stay at UMary, and helping her move back in. 

“It was the best day of the whole semester!” she said, recalling the day she announced her pregnancy to “the whole cohort” of study abroad students. 

While pregnant with Lucia, Chihoski took online classes for a semester from her home in Golden, Colorado. She moved back to UMary junior year and stayed with a residence director until St. Teresa’s opened the next semester.

At St. Teresa’s, each mom has two rooms, one for her child and one for her, Chihoski explained. Mothers in the community are assigned a semester chore to focus on and babysit at least once a week. The moms go to fun events or eat dinner together, Chihoski said. Students volunteer to babysit so the moms can go to class and other campus events.

“I have seen [the student babysitters] make time for the kids and even bring them to classes if we are short on babysitters one week,” Chihoski said. “They come into our community willing to help in whatever way they can, and they do it so cheerfully!”

“One thing that has made the biggest difference for me returning to college was the mothers in the Bismarck community and residence directors [RDs] on campus,” she said. “Some of the RDs are mothers, and they are beautiful witnesses to living the role of a Catholic wife and mother well.”

Because of this, Lucia has several playmates her age. She’s also very popular on campus.

“Since Lucia was 4 months old, she was going to sports games, campus events, and meeting people,” Chihoski explained. “Because of that, she is the most social baby you will ever meet!”

Chihoski is now engaged and will marry her fiance, Josh, in October. They will move to his home state of Minnesota after graduation. Chihoski hopes to work in a school using her social work degree.

She and Josh began dating later on in her time at UMary. 

“I always say that Josh fell in love with Lucia before he fell in love with me, which I had always desired for my future since having Lucia,” she said. 

When asked what she would say to someone who found themselves unexpectedly pregnant, Chihoski encouraged moms to “not isolate yourself from your community.”

“Whether you’re living by yourself, with family, or are going to school, there is a community out there waiting to help,” she said. “You just have to ask.”

First Reading (Acts 9:26-31)

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

When Saul arrived in Jerusalem he tried to join the disciples,

but they were all afraid of him,

not believing that he was a disciple.

Then Barnabas took charge of him and brought him to the apostles,

and he reported to them how he had seen the Lord,

and that he had spoken to him,

and how in Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus.

He moved about freely with them in Jerusalem,

and spoke out boldly in the name of the Lord.

He also spoke and debated with the Hellenists,

but they tried to kill him.

And when the brothers learned of this,

they took him down to Caesarea

and sent him on his way to Tarsus.

The church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria was at peace.

It was being built up and walked in the fear of the Lord,

and with the consolation of the Holy Spirit it grew in numbers.

Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us,

we have confidence in God

and receive from him whatever we ask,

because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

And his commandment is this:

Those who keep his commandments remain in him, and he in them,

and the way we know that he remains in us

A drone’s-eye view of 7 glorious Catholic churches

There are many beautiful churches in the world that combine impressive construction with splendid works of art. While some are on the more austere side, others contain so many details that it’s a challenge for the human eye to take it all in.

However, new technologies today allow us to contemplate from different angles, inside and outside, these stellar churches dedicated to the worship of God. 

Below are seven videos that in addition to giving you extraordinary views will enhance the way you see these churches.

1. Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes (France)

According to the Lourdes Shrine website, the complex covers over 130 acres and includes 22 places of worship, including three basilicas. The first is a chapel that has the title of Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, built over the grotto where Our Lady of Lourdes appeared in 1858.

The second is the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, where you can see mosaics depicting the mysteries of the rosary. Finally, there is the underground basilica in honor of St. Pius X, which was inaugurated in 1958 on the occasion of the centennial of the apparitions.

2. Basilica of the Holy Family (Spain)

Located in Barcelona, Spain, construction began in 1882 and was designed by architect Antonio Gaudí. Still not totally completed, construction continues to this day, financed by donations only. The Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) basilica website announced on its construction timeline that in November 2023 “the group of four towers of the evangelists was inaugurated.”

In 2026, the central tower of Jesus is scheduled to be completed. The interior beauty and attention to detail of the artistic representations of the exterior of the basilica were designed to lift up the spirits of visitors.

3. Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexico)

This church is dedicated to the Mother of God and is located on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico City, where the Virgin appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531. 

The current structure, completed in 1976, has a circular design so that the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe can be seen from any point in the church. Each year, tens of millions of people visit the site. Pilgrimages spike around the annual feast day on Dec. 12.

4. Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (Spain)

In Spain and throughout Europe, the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) pilgrimage route is well known. It ends at the cathedral of the same name. The cathedral’s website chronicles that it was built over the tomb of St. James the Apostle.

Since the ninth century when construction began, the church has undergone various changes, remodeling, and restorations. Visitors marvel at its striking baroque façade and its impressive details. The cathedral has been visited by both St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

5. Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Cecilia (Argentina)

The cathedral and basilica located in the Diocese of Mar del Plata in Argentina was declared a National Historical Heritage Site in 1995. The church has neo-Gothic architecture and its interior has great artistic and religious value.

Construction began in February 1893 and the church was dedicated Feb. 12, 1905. The colossal church can seat 7,000 people. In January 2022, a 360-degree virtual tour of the structure’s three levels was released.

6. Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière (France)

Located in Lyon, France, the church was built between 1872 and 1917 on a hill and can be seen from any point in the city. It has four main towers and a bell tower crowned with a golden statue of the Virgin Mary.

The basilica is situated in the oldest section of Lyon, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this video, you can see the statue of the Mother of God from above, protecting her children as dusk falls.

7. Cologne Cathedral (Germany)

The cathedral, located in Cologne, Germany, is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Gothic art in medieval Europe. It was built over a fourth-century Roman temple. Construction began in 1248 and took more than 600 years to complete.

In 1996 it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among its historic vaults it houses precious reliquaries, liturgical items, manuscripts, robes, and insignia of archbishops and cathedral clerics that have been used over the centuries.

Bonus track (Brazil)

The statue of Christ the Redeemer in Río de Janeiro, Brazil, is one of the best-known images of our risen Lord in the entire world. A chapel is located within the statue’s massive pedestal.

Located at the top of Corcovado Hill and considered one of the seven wonders of the modern world, this statue symbolizes that Christ reigns and will always reign.

If we are being examined today

about a good deed done to a cripple,

that it was in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean

whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead;

in his name this man stands before you healed.

He is the stone rejected by you, the builders,

which has become the cornerstone.

There is no salvation through anyone else,

nor is there any other name under heaven

and whose sheep are not his own,

sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away,

and the wolf catches and scatters them.

This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd,

and I know mine and mine know me,

just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;

and I will lay down my life for the sheep.

I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.

These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice,

and there will be one flock, one shepherd.

This is why the Father loves me,

because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.

No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own.

I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again.

This command I have received from my Father."
