Third Sunday of Easter - Year A (April 30, 2017)

A.    Introduction

a)     To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Good morning!
Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the celebration of the Third Sunday of Easter, Year A.
Christ, the Risen Lord, does not abandon His friends in confusion and at loss because of His suffering and death on the cross.  After He rose from the dead, He appeared to the believers in Him, strengthened their faith in Him through His teaching on salvation and in particular through the breaking of bread.
We pray for the blessing of encounter with the Lord Who lives now deep in all aspects of our life and in our hearts.  Only when we meet Him personally can we become witnesses of His glorious victory over the Evil One.
Please all stand for the entrance hymn.

b)    To the Readings

-          First Reading: Acts 2:14.22-33

The Resurrection of Christ was the main topic of the apostolic preaching in the early times of Christianity.  For the audience of Jewish majority Saint Peter showed convincing evidence from Sacred Scripture that Christ was raised from the dead in accordance with what had been written.

-          Second Reading: 1 Pt 1:17-21

Our new life in Christ was paid with so high a price: the Blood of the Son of God.  We owe, therefore, a sea of gratitude to Christ Who died so that we might live through the mercy of God Who forgave our sins because of Christ.

b) Responsorial: EM page 139

  • Responsorial Psalm (Ps 16:1-2, 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11)

R/ Lord, you will show us the path of life.
R/ Chúa sẽ dạy con biết đường về cõi sống.

Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge; I say to the LORD, “My Lord are you.” O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup, you it is who hold fast my lot. R/
Lạy Chúa trời, xin giữ gìn con, vì bên Ngài, con đang ẩn náu. Con thưa cùng Chúa: “Ngài là Chúa con thờ, ngoài Chúa ra, đâu là hạnh phúc?”

I bless the LORD who counsels me; even in the night my heart exhorts me. I set the LORD ever before me; with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. R/
Con chúc tụng Chúa hằng thương chỉ dạy, ngay cả đêm trường, lòng dạ nhắn nhủ con. Con luôn nhớ có Ngài trước mặt, được Ngài ở bên, chẳng nao núng bao giờ.

Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices, my body, too, abides in confidence; because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld, nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption. R/

You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever. R/
Chúa sẽ dạy con biết đường về cõi sống: trước Thánh Nhan, ôi vui sướng tràn trề, ở bên Ngài, hoan lạc chẳng hề vơi!

Second Sunday of Easter - Year A (April 23, 2017)

    A.     Introduction

    a)      To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

    Good morning!

Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the celebration of Sunday Holy Mass.

Today as we celebrate the Second Sunday of Easter, the message of the Gospel reporting the story of Saint Thomas tells us to personalize our faith in Christ’s Resurrection.  We need the Church community to teach us the basic catechism on God’s mysteries.  We need our parents and friends to explain to us how to put what we have learned about Christian Way of life into practice.  It is more important, however, to make what we believe our own conviction so as for each and one of us to profess, as we do in reciting the Creed, “I believe.”

Kindly all stand for the entrance hymn.

    b)     To the Readings

    -          First Reading Acts 2:42-47

The Resurrection of the Lord has a tremendous impact on the lives of the believers in Him Who conquered the evil consequences of sin.  The first Christian community lived a life no longer for themselves but for the Lord in the breaking of bread, and for others when they shared with one another all that they had.

    -          Second Reading 1 Pt 1:3-9

Saint Peter stresses the truth that our faith needs being tested and purified through suffering and trials so as to become more shining in times of darkness and confusion.

R/ Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love is everlasting.
R/ Hãy tạ ơn Chúa vì Chúa nhân từ, muôn ngàn đời Chúa vẫn trọn tình thương.

Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.” Let the house of Aaron say, “His mercy endures forever.” Let those who fear the LORD say, “His mercy endures forever.” R/
Ít-ra-en hãy nói lên rằng: muôn ngàn đời Chúa vẫn trọn tình thương. Ai kính sợ Chúa hãy nói lên rằng: muôn ngàn đời Chúa vẫn trọn tình thương.

I was hard pressed and was falling, but the LORD helped me. My strength and my courage is the LORD,and he has been my savior. The joyful shout of victory in the tents of the just: R/
Chúng xô đẩy tôi, xô cho ngã, nhưng Chúa đã phù trợ thân này. Kìa nghe tiếng reo mừng chiến thắng trong doanh trại chính nhân:

The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it. R/

    Reconciles sinners to the Father.
Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous:
The Prince of life, who died, reigns immortal.
    Speak, Mary, declaring
    What you saw, wayfaring.
“The tomb of Christ, who is living,
    The glory of Jesus’ resurrection;
    bright angels attesting,
    The shroud and napkin resting.
    Yes, Christ my hope is arisen;
to Galilee he goes before you.”

PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD (APRIL 9, 2017)

    Introduction

    a)      To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

    Good morning!

Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the Sunday Holy Mass celebration.
We celebrate this Sunday the solemn entrance of our Lord Jesus Christ into the Holy City of Jerusalem to the joy and excitement of the people who offered Him a magnificent welcome with branches of palm tree and shouting, singing, and dancing.

Christ knew that the time of His sacrifice for the salvation of humankind had come.  He decided to take the cross and walk up to Calvary where the New Covenant in His Blood would be realized.

Let us join the people to welcome Christ and follow Him to the celebration of this Holy Mass where all of us, together with Christ, the High Priest, will offer ourselves as an expression of love and gratitude to God the Father for having reconciled us sinners to Himself in Christ Jesus.

    b)     To the Readings

    -       First Reading Is 50:4-7

Christ took the role of the lamb of sacrifice being led to the place of crucifixion without any form of resistance or protest.  This was because He loved sinners and wanted to free them from the Evil One, even though that meant His own life.

    -      Second Reading Phil 2:6-11

To successfully and properly perform the role of the reconciler in bringing back the sinful humanity to God the Father, Christ, Son of God and God Himself though, humbly assumed the form of human being.  For this act of self-humiliation Christ deserved glory and praise of highest degree bestowed on Him be God the Father.
