CHÚC MỪNG LỄ THÁNH GIA (30-12-2018)

The Holy Spirit Choir

Homily for the Holy Family Of Jesus, Mary and Joseph (Dec 30, 2018)

God Has A Family

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

God has a Family. This is a good news for all of us. Yes!

According to Saint Paul, in his Letter to the Hebrews, Chapter 4, verse 15, assures us of this truth: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin.”

The Great Apostle means to say that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and God Himself, came into our world and made His home here, to stay with us forever, is really one among us, a true fellow human person, like all of us.

In becoming human, God has accepted the rule of “fair play”, walking side by side with us on the long journey, throughout the ups and downs of our life on earth.

First, He took our human nature—it is to say, by so doing, God now has a human heart, beating in tune with ours.  For this reason, His heart was moved with pity when He saw people dying of hunger and lost like sheep without a shepherd (see Mt 14:14).  He shed tears when Lazarus, His friend, passed away (see Jn 11:35.)  He was so frightened when facing a violent death that, according the Gospel of Saint Luke, Chapter 22, verse 44, “His sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.”

In our celebration of the Holy family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph today, we come to realize the amazing reality that God the Father, the Almighty Creator of the universe, has decided to build a human family for His Only Beloved Son to be born into, to be fed, and to be educated by human parents in order that the Son of God may become the Son of Man, and that God Himself may become true human.

By so doing, God teaches us the truth that the family plays an indispensable role in the completion of our vocation of a human person, the very important foundation of our human dignity and our human rights for we were created by the loving and caring God in His own image. The family is the first school of which our first teachers are our dads and moms, who teach us, by truthful word and good examples, how to be humans and Christians.

Second, the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is one that is built on the very solid and stable foundation of the very traditional institution of marriage.  Marriage should be taken into its serious nature as willed by God the Creator, it is to say, the union between a man and a woman.  It is to this couple, the husband and the wife, the father and the mother, that God has given His power of procreation, it is to say, of bearing children.

Jesus loves the human family so much that He blesses it with the sacrament of Holy Matrimony.  Saint Paul, in his Letter to the Ephesians, compares the love of the human spouses with that of Christ and His Church.

Finally, the Christian family has Jesus as the heart and the soul of its life.  When Jesus went missing, Mary and Joseph left everything behind and did their best to look for Him.

Saint John-Paul II in one of his letters to families wrote that if you have ever met some people very kind and good who lend you a helping hand without asking anything in return.  You should be sure that those people have a very happy childhood in the loving and caring hands of their papas and mamas.

But if you suffer a lot because of some very bad, selfish and evil people, be sure that those people have a very unfortunate family life.

Amen.

HOMILY FOR THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD: AT THE MASS DURING THE DAY (Dec 25, 2018)

“A Child Is Born for Us, and A Son Is Given to Us” (Is 9:5)

Dear

Sisters and Brothers in Christ!

Today, we celebrate Christmas, the Birthday of Christ.

Who is Christ? Why is the whole world so excited at His birth?

Christ is the first of the two very well-known words that complete Name of the Founder of Christianity: Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, Palestine, two thousand and eighteen years ago.

His coming into the world had been foretold by the Holy Bible, the Sacred Book that teaches us the very Word of God.

It is thanks to the Holy Bible that we learn the truth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, Whom God sent to our world, as His Messenger, to teach us about God’s divine merciful love; that Jesus Christ is also the powerful Savior of humanity. God sent Him to free us from all forms of slavery to the forces of evil.  Saint Paul in his Letter to the Romans, Chapter 5, verse 12, tells us the truth that “through one person, sin entered the world, and through sin death, and thus death came to all, in as much as all sinned.”  The Holy Bible reminds us of the failure of the first man, Adam, in the fight against temptation of Satan.  Indeed, sin is the root of suffering in the world.  After we have committed sin, we are separated from God, the very source of love, peace and happiness.  God, the compassionate and forgiving Father did not want to leave us in sin and death.  He decided to send His Son to save us.

How did Jesus come to rescue us?  Neither with military might nor with economy power, the Son of God came as a baby, so fragile, so powerless.  He took our human weakness.  He sided with us in the long journey back to man’s original innocence when we were created in the very image of God, as it was written in the Book of Genesis, Chapter I, verse 27.

The Great Prophet Isaiah, in Chapter 9, verse 5, introduces Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world as the lovely child, born for us, meaning to say that He was born just to offer His own life one day on the cross to obtain for us God’s divine mercy and forgiveness; but He is, at the same time, the Beloved Son of God, Whom God the Father gave us as a gift.  A gift can by no means be compared to a payment, not even to a reward.  People pay you because you have done some good service for them.  You have right to receiving a reward for having won in a competition.  We have done nothing good in committing sin, and so, offending God.

God gave us Jesus, His Only Beloved Son, as the evident and convincing proof of His unconditional and unlimited love.

This is I think the reason why every year we gather here to say thank you to God the Father for always loving us, for always forgiving us, for always guiding us on the way of truth and life within Jesus Christ himself.

So again we have good reason to greet one another.

Merry Christmas!
Joyeux Noel!
Felix Navidad!
Maligayang Pasko sa iyong lahat!
Xin chúc mừng Giáng Sinh hạnh phúc và đầy ơn Chúa!

Amen.

CHRISTMAS DAY 2018

A. Introduction

a) To the Holy Mass

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Good morning!

Welcome to Saint Dominic’s Parish Church for the Holy Mass.

Today, we join the universal Church and the whole world in celebrating the Birthday of Christ the Lord, the Savior, and the Almighty God Who comes to bring us love and peace.

Today, we offer our prayers and songs of praise and thanks to the God made man for His great love and mercy with which He has freed us from the slavery to sin and death.

b) To the Readings

- First Reading: Is 57:7-10

The Prophet Isaiah announces the good news of the coming of the long awaited Savior Who will restore everyone and everything having been in ruins and destruction to their original truth, goodness and beauty.

- Second Reading: Heb 1:1-6

According to the author of the Letter to the Hebrews, the sacrifice offered by Christ the Lord to God the Father has gained for us divine mercy and forgiveness because it was a sacrifice of unconditional loving obedience to the Holy Will of the One Whose great love was seriously offended by an ungrateful and disobedient humanity.

  • First Reading (Isaiah 52: 7 – 10)
A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

How beautiful on the mountains  are the feet of those who bring good news,  who proclaim peace,  who bring good tidings,  who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”  Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices;  together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion,  they will see it with their own eyes.  Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people,  he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord will lay bare his holy arm  in the sight of all the nations,  and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.

The word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

  • Bài đọc I (Isaiah 52: 7 – 10)
