First Reading (Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14)
A reading from the Book of Sirach
God sets a father in honor over his children;
a mother’s authority he confirms over her sons.
Whoever honors his father atones for sins,
and preserves himself from them.
When he prays, he is heard;
he stores up riches who reveres his mother.
Whoever honors his father is gladdened by children,
and, when he prays, is heard.
Whoever reveres his father will live a long life;
he who obeys his father brings comfort to his mother.
My son, take care of your father when he is old;
grieve him not as long as he lives.
Even if his mind fail, be considerate of him;
revile him not all the days of his life;
kindness to a father will not be forgotten,
firmly planted against the debt of your sins
—a house raised in justice to you.
The word of the Lord.
Bài đọc I: (Hc 3:2-6, 12-14)
2 Đức Chúa làm cho người cha được vẻ vang vì con cái, cho người mẹ thêm uy quyền đối với các con. 3 Ai thờ cha thì bù đắp lỗi lầm, 4 ai kính mẹ thì tích trữ kho báu.
5 Ai thờ cha sẽ được vui mừng vì con cái, khi cầu nguyện, họ sẽ được lắng nghe.
6 Ai tôn vinh cha sẽ được trường thọ, ai vâng lệnh Đức Chúa sẽ làm cho mẹ an lòng.
12 Con ơi, hãy săn sóc cha con, khi người đến tuổi già; bao lâu người còn sống, chớ làm người buồn tủi. 13 Người có lú lẫn, con cũng phải cảm thông, chớ cậy mình sung sức mà khinh dể người.
14 Vì lòng hiếu nghĩa đối với cha sẽ không bị quên lãng, và sẽ đền bù tội lỗi cho con.
Đó là Lời Chúa.

Second Reading (Colossians 3:12-21)
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Colossians
Brothers and sisters:
Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved,
heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
bearing with one another and forgiving one another,
if one has a grievance against another;
as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.
And over all these put on love,
that is, the bond of perfection.
And let the peace of Christ control your hearts,
the peace into which you were also called in one body.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,
as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another,
singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs
with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, in word or in deed,
do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, be subordinate to your husbands,
as is proper in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives,
and avoid any bitterness toward them.
Children, obey your parents in everything,
for this is pleasing to the Lord.
Fathers, do not provoke your children,
so they may not become discouraged.
The word of the Lord.

12 Anh em là những người được Thiên Chúa tuyển lựa, hiến thánh và yêu thương. Vì thế, anh em hãy có lòng thương cảm, nhân hậu, khiêm nhu, hiền hoà và nhẫn nại. 13 Hãy chịu đựng và tha thứ cho nhau, nếu trong anh em người này có điều gì phải trách móc người kia. Chúa đã tha thứ cho anh em, thì anh em cũng vậy, anh em phải tha thứ cho nhau. 14 Trên hết mọi đức tính, anh em phải có lòng bác ái: đó là mối dây liên kết tuyệt hảo. 15 Ước gì ơn bình an của Đức Ki-tô điều khiển tâm hồn anh em, vì trong một thân thể duy nhất, anh em đã được kêu gọi đến hưởng ơn bình an đó. Bởi vậy, anh em hãy hết dạ tri ân. 16 Ước chi lời Đức Ki-tô ngự giữa anh em thật dồi dào phong phú. Anh em hãy dạy dỗ khuyên bảo nhau với tất cả sự khôn ngoan. Để tỏ lòng biết ơn, anh em hãy đem cả tâm hồn mà hát dâng Thiên Chúa những bài thánh vịnh, thánh thi và thánh ca, do Thần Khí linh hứng. 17 Anh em có làm gì, nói gì, thì hãy làm hãy nói nhân danh Chúa Giê-su và nhờ Người mà cảm tạ Thiên Chúa Cha. 18 Người làm vợ hãy phục tùng chồng, như thế mới xứng đáng là người thuộc về Chúa. 19 Người làm chồng hãy yêu thương chứ đừng cay nghiệt với vợ. 20 Kẻ làm con hãy vâng lời cha mẹ trong mọi sự, vì đó là điều đẹp lòng Chúa. 21 Những bậc làm cha mẹ đừng làm cho con cái bực tức, kẻo chúng ngã lòng.
Đó là Lời Chúa.

Gospel (Mt 2:13-15, 19-23)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew
When the magi had departed, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.”
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod,
that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
Out of Egypt I called my son.
When Herod had died, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream
to Joseph in Egypt and said,
“Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel,
for those who sought the child’s life are dead.”
He rose, took the child and his mother,
and went to the land of Israel.
But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea
in place of his father Herod,
he was afraid to go back there.
And because he had been warned in a dream,
he departed for the region of Galilee.
He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth,
so that what had been spoken through the prophets
might be fulfilled,
He shall be called a Nazorean.

Phúc Âm: (Mt 2:13-15. 19-23)
“Hãy đem Con Trẻ và mẹ Người trốn sang Ai-cập”.
Tin Mừng Chúa Giêsu Kitô theo Thánh Matthêu.
Khi các đạo sĩ đã đi rồi, thiên thần Chúa hiện ra với ông Giuse trong lúc ngủ và bảo ông: “Hãy thức dậy, đem Hài Nhi và mẹ Người trốn sang Ai-cập, và ở đó cho tới khi tôi báo lại ông, vì Hêrôđê sắp sửa tìm kiếm Hài Nhi để sát hại Người”. Ông thức dậy, đem Hài Nhi và mẹ Người lên đường trốn sang Ai-cập đang lúc ban đêm. Ông ở lại đó cho tới khi Hêrôđê băng hà, hầu làm cho trọn điều Chúa dùng miệng tiên tri mà phán rằng: “Ta gọi con Ta ra khỏi Ai-cập”.
Bấy giờ Hêrôđê thấy mình bị các đạo sĩ đánh lừa, nên nổi cơn thịnh nộ và sai quân đi giết tất cả con trẻ ở Bêlem và vùng phụ cận, từ hai tuổi trở xuống, tính theo thời gian vua đã cặn kẽ hỏi các đạo sĩ. Thế là ứng nghiệm lời tiên tri Giêrêmia đã nói: Tại Rama, người ta nghe những tiếng khóc than nức nở, đó là tiếng bà Rakhel than khóc con mình, bà không chịu cho người ta an ủi bà, vì các con bà không còn nữa.
Khi Hêrôđê băng hà, thì đây thiên thần Chúa hiện ra cùng Giuse trong giấc mơ bên Ai-cập và bảo: “Hãy chỗi dậy, đem Con Trẻ và mẹ Người về đất Israel, vì những kẻ tìm hại mạng sống Người đã chết”. Ông liền chỗi dậy, đem Con Trẻ và mẹ Người về đất Israel. Nhưng nghe rằng Arkhêlao làm vua xứ Giuđa thay cho Hêrôđê là cha mình, thì Giuse sợ không dám về đó. Ðược báo trong giấc mộng, ông lánh sang địa phận xứ Galilêa, và lập cư trong thành gọi là Nadarét, để ứng nghiệm lời đã phán qua các tiên tri rằng: “Người sẽ được gọi là Nadarêô”.
Ðó là lời Chúa.

to present our needs and those of all our brothers and sisters.

A For a Church where all deepen their sense of honor towards one another,
for peace among its members,
and welcome for those who hear the call to join its ranks,
we pray to the Lord:
B For the family of nations, for those who seek the way of peace,
for heartfelt compassion among civic leaders at all levels,
we pray to the Lord:
C For children of all ages, especially for those without parents,
for the unborn children that the world needs to be born,
we pray to the Lord:
D For parents and grandparents, for those who care for orphans,
for childcare workers and extended families of care,
we pray to the Lord:
E For this community, this family in Christ,
for a deepening spirit of welcome and concern for all who join us in prayer,
we pray to the Lord:

Father God, through the intercession of Mary our mother
and the whole family of our brothers and sisters, the saints,
bind us ever more closely to your will, and grant us these prayers,
which we offer in the name of Jesus, your Son.
